Deep under the streets of New York City, the subway car doors slide open. Josh Johnson looks at the passengers as they crowd in around him, then he slips off his sneakers and replaces them with tap shoes.

As the train rumbles down the tracks, Josh steps into the middle of the car, confident and smiling. “Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Josh Johnson,” he says. “Welcome to the Underground Tap Show. I am your host, you are my audience. This is a Broadway show without a Broadway ticket. If you would like to make any donations, please feel free. Here we go!”

Josh loves being a tap dancer. He likes being self-sufficient, so he performs to make money to pay for college. But he still does not want people to know that he struggles to pay for college and food to eat.
