David reminisces about last February, a time when he was in third grade. Last year, he wasn’t as popular or busy as he is nowadays. He has fond thoughts about Annabelle, one of his classmates, and how she showed kindness toward him when he was very shy. And then out of nowhere, he gets paired with her for an assignment! David is on top of the world! David and his classmates learn about famous African Americans, past and present. Mrs. Mitchell wanted to change things up a bit and expand her students’ horizons. So she also taught them about Aesop’s Fables, which was definitely an awesome learning experience. Mrs. Phillips teaches her Drama Club about African folktales and the trickster spider, Anansi. She immerses the students in parts of African culture using drumming, chanting, and dancing. The members of the Drama Club are practicing for a special African folktale performance as well.
