Set the record straight on the powerful role of the United States Colored Troops

Here is the latest poignant and powerful family-legacy story in the popular Grandpa Sandy Wills series written by author Cheryl Wills. For decades, the heroic acts of the United States Colored Troops have traditionally been reduced to a mere footnote, but this story sets the record straight about the powerful role black soldiers played in helping to liberate America from slavery.

On June 19, 1865, thousands of black soldiers from the United States Colored Troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and marched into the town as a show of force for the black folks who awaited the news that slavery had ended. The presence of the black troops is a momentous historical event that has never been told before— until now!
